The Bone Grafting Process
- The tooth is removed and the remaining tooth socket is thoroughly cleaned of all inflamed and
infected tissue
- An appropriate bone grafting material is carefully placed into the extraction socket
- A membrane is often placed over the grafted material
- Sutures placed into the gum tissue allow proper healing of the surrounding soft tissues
Bone grafting is the process of build up the bone in the
site where a tooth was extracted from in preparation for a
dental implant to insure success of the implant. The
procedure of building up the bone is known as bone grafting.
Bone grafting is a very common procedure in dentistry and it
is used often for dental implants and in periodontal
procedures around natural teeth. In order to do bone
grafting, we need a source of bone to place in the site. The
bone that we use is a very common source of bone taken
from cadavers. This bone is harvested under very strict
supervision, processed and sterilized thoroughly before it is
used. It is commonly used in many dental and medical
procedures. It is very safe and very useful in the implant
process.
